The Surge

Why the heck is the increase in troops in Iraq still being called a "surge?" With no immediate end in sight it sends to me that this really isn't a "surge," it is something more like a general increase in troops.

It's extreme marketing, man. Don't you get it? If it sounds like a soft drink, the kids will want to join up in droves!

Something less drastic, say, for example, "mild, steady influx" does not hold the same appeal. That sounds like a gastrointestinal disorder.
